Herend is known for its long history of producing the finest hand-painted porcelain worldwide. Herend’s trademark fishnet pattern design, which is most popular in the U.S., originated in 1858 when an artist intrigued with a Chinese plate’s fish scale design painted it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers. Each Herend figurine is handmade in Hungary.

The colors, ridges and patterns found on a tortoise’s shell usually work to conceal the turtle and make him less conspicuous. In the case of this newest member of the Reserve Collection, either the tortoise spends all of his days frolicking in a meadow hiding out among flowers and wild berries or then he is abandoning his camouflage strategy. Who could blame him if it was the latter since such beautiful applied and painted details would make any turtle come out of his shell (pun intended)!
