Herend is known for its long history of producing the finest hand-painted porcelain worldwide. Herend’s trademark fishnet pattern design, which is most popular in the U.S., originated in 1858 when an artist intrigued with a Chinese plate’s fish scale design painted it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers. Each Herend figurine is handmade in Hungary.

Lionfish like to hunt in the evening or predawn hours when the low light allows their dramatic striped pattern to blend with the shadows and nooks and crannies of a reef. A favorite fish among saltwater aquarium enthusiasts; unfortunately, a lionfish’s beauty is protected by venomous spines so glass walls are a welcome barrier between human and fish. While a lionfish in nature demands a look-but-don’t-touch philosophy, Herend’s newest introduction requires no such discretion. A masterpiece in its execution, from the illusion of transparency achieved on his fins to the dramatic pattern on his body, Herend’s artists used new painting styles as wild and exotic as the fish they so meticulously captured.
