Herend is known for its long history of producing the finest hand-painted porcelain worldwide. Herend’s trademark fishnet pattern design, which is most popular in the U.S., originated in 1858 when an artist intrigued with a Chinese plate’s fish scale design painted it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers. Each Herend figurine is handmade in Hungary.
Almost like mother nature created his shell knowing it would be the perfect painter’s canvas, the artists at Herend have returned yet again to one of their favorite inspirations. Members of the family Testudinoidea are the perfect muse to the painter’s craft with the shell just aching to be decorated in fresh, dramatic ways that push against established creative boundaries. In this case the echoes of an eastern box turtle meet Hungarian flair and together create an extraordinary, new branch on the established family tree.
